February Trip to Wyoming.

Once again, I have gone to visit my sister in Wyoming. I had a ton of fun and got a once of a lifetime experience that I actually may get to experience again.

My trip began with heading over the mountains on Sunday before Presidents day. The trip was pretty easy. Easier than I expected, in fact. I don't believe I took any pictures on my way there. I just enjoyed the scenery and took it easy. On Monday, we all headed out to snowmobile and sled. 3 adults, 2 kids, 2 snowmobiles, & 2 sleds. Due to the lack of a 3rd snowmobile, we shared a snowmobile and when headed up the trail we pulled Cody in the sled. We just played hard most of the day. Kellie and I went down the hill in a sled. Snow blew up in our faces, we flipped over, I got smashed face first in the snow, and we laid in the snow laughing for a long time. It was just a lot of fun!

The girls didn't have school Monday or Tuesday so we got to play a lot. The rest of the week was pretty smooth except for a few snow storms and the wind that drifted in the road. But I guess they are used to all of that.

Saturday we got up and headed out an area called Boulder. And then followed a lady back into the forest land. There we got to feed elk. Lots and lots of elk. I believe the lady said theynormally have 700 head of elk, but there were only about 500 there that day. We loaded hay onto a wagon and drove around on a horse drawn wagon dumping the hay off. The elk got very close to the wagon to eat the hay. In fact, a few ate hay right off the wagon. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me first trip through but I did for the next three trips. I took a ton of pictures! I mean a ton. If you would like to see them all you can go to this link. Kerry's Photobucket But here are a few of the better pictures.

After feeding the elk, we went to lunch at this great Chinese restaurant. Then we headed out to see the white buffalo. Although, they look rather small there is no point of reference. They are huge! They are in a large field of snow.

Sunday we went snowmobiling again. I took a few pictures but on Cody's camera and forgot to get them off. Keitlee also took some pictures but I didn't get those either. So I can only tell you about that day. That was the most eventful day of the trip. We went out to a different area than we had gone the week before. I liked this place because it had lots of great trails. This time we had borrowed a snowmobile from the neighbor. So we had one for each adult. A couple of friends of Kellie & Cody went with us also. Kyla rode with me and Keitlee rode with Kellie. (yes I realize that is a lot of K's) We did great for a while. The boys went off and played. We were looking for a sledding hill. We thought we had found one and up the hill we go. Kellie & Keitlee first. Kyla and I headed up and then didn't make it. The snowmobile turned to the side and then started to roll down. It rolled over Kyla. I tumbled down the hill catching a glimpse of the snowmobile rolling down after me. I knew I needed to get out of the way of it. It was going to roll over me. I forced myself to roll to the side. I finally stopped rolling and ran up the hill to Kyla. She was crying. I pulled off her helmet and hat while I was asking her what hurt. She said her head. I knew then she was fine. I told her we would sit there for a minute. She stopped crying pretty quickly. We then walked the rest of the way up the hill. Kellie had no idea what had happened. Kellie's friend sat at the bottom watching the whole thing unfold. After a bit, Cody drives up on his snowmobile. He had rolled his also. Fortunately, we all were ok. We tried to sled at this hill but it wasn't so great. So on down the trail we went. My snowmobile had hot dog cooker on it. It cooks the hotdogs while you ride. So we find another hill to sled on. We go up the hill and decide to eat lunch and build a fire. I have to pee! I can't wait any longer. Any where I go there is deep deep snow. I head over to a clump of trees. I sink down to my knees in snow. I can't go too far back into the trees. So I squat and look to my left and see a guy coming over the hill on his snowmobile. I am sure he could see me and my white butt. But oh well, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. The rest of the trip was rather uneventful. We were out quite a few hours and had a ton of fun.

The next day however, was not as much fun. We all were very very sore and tired. Cody took part of the day off to recover. Kellie and I hobbled around all day. We decided we are too old to be doing that kind of stuff for so long.

Daily, a cow & calf moose went behind the house to the willows in the morning and then went back to where ever they came from that evening. I caught them on the camera one morning.

The girls are in ice skating. It's fun to watch them.

The forecast showed a snow storm on Monday. So I planned to head home on Tuesday. Monday there wasn't much snow. Tuesday the snow storm hit. So I planned to head home on Wednesday. I waited till early afternoon to leave. I head out and all was good until I get 30ish miles down the road. I drive directly into a snow storm. Not knowing how long this will last and having no cell phone reception, I decide to turn around and go back. So Thursday I will leave. I wake up early and check the forecast. A snow storm to hit at 11am. I must get out of there! So off I go, I don't even get 10 miles down the road and the road is snow packed and it's snowing. But the forecast is snow for at least another week. So it's now or spring. So I keep going. I know that the roads are probably only going to be bad to for about 50 miles. The roads do get better however I ended up driving through 4 storms. 2 of them were rain snow mix. But I made it home!

I had a great time but it sure it good to be sleeping in my own bed again. Now to get started on the projects here at home.
